Sisterhood
Laura Gurvis, Chair
The Sisterhood provides opportunities for women of all ages to socialize, celebrate and help in the community. The committee works to create an environment that is friendly and inclusive. The Sisterhood is part of a national organization (Women of Reform Judaism) with lobbying power that works to protect our rights as women and Jews, and lends support to Israel.
The Committee sponsors several annual events:
- At our Temple the Sisterhood organizes and subsidizes the weekly Oneg Shabbat and pulpit flower arrangement, give every Bar and Bat Mitzvah child a Kiddush cup, and every Confirmand a High Holiday prayer book.
- We celebrate…The Sisterhood holds a women’s Passover Seder, offering women of the congregation and their daughters, sisters, and mothers, a fresh new look at a centuries-old tradition.
- We Socialize…Our Fall Fling Dinner and our Members Only Dinner provide opportunities for the women of the Sisterhood to visit with old friends and make new friends in a relaxed social setting.
- We Learn…Our Women’s Health Series, Movie Night, Author’s Night, and Mah Johng classes provide us with the opportunity to socialize and learn something new at the same time.
