Social Action: Mitzvah Mall

Annual holiday gift fair

Each year the Mitzvah Mall is held on a Sunday morning a few weeks prior to the beginning of Chanukah. Religious school students attend with their classes. In addition, all members of the congregation are able to participate from 9am-1pm.

Shopping at the Mitzvah Mall provides a unique opportunity for you to purchase thoughtful Hanukkah and holiday gifts for friends, relatives, and teachers through small contributions to very worthwhile non-profit and charitable organizations. In past years organizations represented have included:

Various Soup Kitchens such as Sandra's Lodge and Sundays’ Bread

  • Mass Audubon (vital conservation work with Leatherback Turtles)
  • Women's Lunch Place (a gallon of milk for homeless women & children)
  • Israel Kibbutz Fund ("Moo-tual Fund" share of a dairy cow on Kibbutz Lotan
  • American Jewish World Service (providing water for thirsty children in Darfur)
  • Congregation Or Hadash in Haifa, Israel (prayer books, talit & kippa for bar/bat mitzvah children

Following your purchase you are provided with a lovely card and an insert that describes the organization you have selected. Recipients have been touched by these very meaningful and thoughtful gifts.
