Make A Difference in December
MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS DECEMBER
The Social Action Committee is sponsoring the following service projects during the upcoming holiday season. We hope you will consider participating in one of these worthwhile endeavors.
Chanukah, Oh Chanukah!
Help prepare latkes and other Chanukah goodies for this party to be held on Wednesday December 17 at the headquarters of Little Brothers, Friends of the Elderly located at 3305 Washington Street, Jamaica Plain. Be there at 1:00 to help before and during the party which ends at 4pm. Jewish elders from all over Boston will be in attendance. RSVP to Sara Shreve,

Share the Miracle
Deliver Chanukah Celebration Packages and Festive Kosher Meals while visiting with homebound seniors 70 to 103 years old in the Newton, Brookline, and Boston area. On Sunday Dec. 14 meet at Hebrew SeniorLife, 1200 Centre St. Roslindale where we will start at 8am for those who want to pack and at 9:30 pm for those who want to deliver and visit to help our seniors feel a sense of community. Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel
New Day in Somerville is a residence for pregnant women and new mothers with infants and toddlers with substance abuse problems. Jerry Kashuck is coordinating a small Holiday Party for these women and their children to take place on Tuesday Dec.23. Volunteers are needed to prepare desserts and shop for presents for residents and babies. We will gather at the Temple to wrap gifts and go together to New Day where we’ll tell the story of Chanukah. Light Up the Holidays
Help bring joy to clients of Riverside Community Cares by participating in our Light Up the Holidays campaign. Your donation will go directly to a $20 gift card for a child in need in our community. Please contact Julie Sall, 617-965-3972, julie@sall.net if you are interested

Potatoes and Stuffing
The tradition continues as members of Temple Shalom shop for and prepare baked potatoes and stuffing which will be served as a part of Christmas meals that are delivered to elderly homebound residents on Christmas Day. This project is sponsored by Little Brothers, Friends ofthe Elderly. Cooking and camaraderie will take place Wednesday Dec. 24 9am to 1pm at Spears Hall, Northeastern University. Come and work as long as you like. Please call Malva Gordett, 617-332-4190, no later than December 22.
Deck the Halls
On Wednesday December 24 from 9am to 1pm join with other volunteers to decorate Churchill Hall at Northeastern as part of Little Brothers, Friends of the Elderly. A great way for kids and adults to volunteer and have fun at the same time! Contact Sara Shreve, Volunteer Coordinator, 617- 524 – 8882 for more information.
Christmas Day at the University Lutheran Church in Cambridge
Approximately 8 people are needed to make and serve Christmas Day lunch or dinner at this 24 bed homeless shelter run by Harvard University and the church. If dinner, reparation will start at 6:00. Children over the age of 6 are welcome with adult supervision.
Little Brother’s Friends of the Elderly Visitation Program
Beginning at 10am on Christmas Day, volunteers are needed to assemble on campus at Northeastern University’s Churchill Hall to pick up and then deliver traditional holiday dinners, and flowers to the homes of 400-500 seniors throughout Boston. Volunteers are asked to spend time visiting with the elders, providing companionship on a day that would otherwise be spent in isolation. .The Hebrew Rehabilitation Center needs your help on Christmas Day and throughout the school vacation week while many staff members take time off during the holiday season. Bring yourself or your family including children and even a nice friendly dog to play scrabble, cards, and bingo or just visit with the elderly.
